Modern psychology confirms this biblical principle by noting how language shapes self-perception and behavior. Positive affirmations rooted in Scripture are not human attempts at self-improvement but spiritual disciplines that reshape identity in Christ.</p><h3>Integrating Biblical Truth into Affirmations</h3><p>I once worked with a young man who constantly labeled himself a failure due to repeated mistakes in school and relationships. Together, we created daily affirmations rooted in scripture, such as “God is not finished with me yet” (Philippians 1:6) and “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid” (Hebrews 13:6).⁴ Over time, his outlook transformed as his words became instruments of life rather than death. Speaking these aloud daily reshapes both mindset and faith identity.⁶ Research even suggests that spoken affirmations, when grounded in values and beliefs, strengthen cognitive resilience and reduce stress.⁷ For Christians, this means affirmations are more than motivational mantras, they are declarations of God’s promises that align the believer’s heart and mind with eternal truth.</p><p>Ultimately, the power of words reflects the character of God Himself, who spoke creation into existence (Genesis 1).⁸ If God’s words bring life, then as image-bearers we must use our words to cultivate hope, healing, and encouragement. <h2>Understanding Anxiety Through a Faith Lens</h2><p>Anxiety remains one of the most pressing struggles in today’s world, affecting millions across cultures and age groups.¹ The apostle Paul provides a divine prescription in Philippians 4:6–7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Many find relief through prayer, which offers a moment of connection with the divine. Likewise, the Psalms remind us repeatedly that God is our refuge and strength, “an ever-present help in trouble” (Ps. 46:1).⁶ Scripture invites us not to deny fear but to bring it before the God who is greater than our circumstances.<br>I have counseled individuals who combined scripture meditation with breathing exercises, such as inhaling with the words, “The Lord is my shepherd,” and exhaling fear and worry. Over time, these individuals experienced measurable relief as their thoughts became anchored in God’s truth. Today, artificial intelligence (AI) such as ChatGPT raises similar questions about the stewardship of knowledge. Technology itself is not inherently evil. Throughout history, tools like the printing press, radio, and the internet have been used to advance the gospel.² Each of these innovations brought both incredible opportunities and significant dangers, depending on whether they were used to glorify God or to magnify human pride. AI now sits within this same tension. Yet AI also carries risks. As recent reports have revealed, AI can contribute to harmful outcomes when misused, from spreading misinformation to worsening mental health struggles, especially among young people.³</p><figure id="figure-u9bmsjybbxmg0a4muf" class=""><img id="u9bmsjybbxmg0a4muf" src="https://cdn.durable.co/getty/2ctxyzuvXtboIzs8mKP4CuFB9bXN58CeV9BQ2lcXfGFi7qZpi5ZNqI1KKiHzNKJt.jpeg" alt="faith technology" class="object-cover bg-gray-100 " style="aspect-ratio: 16/9;" data-mce-src="https://cdn.durable.co/getty/2ctxyzuvXtboIzs8mKP4CuFB9bXN58CeV9BQ2lcXfGFi7qZpi5ZNqI1KKiHzNKJt.jpeg" data-mce-style="aspect-ratio: 16/9;"></figure><h3>Technology as Tool and Temptation</h3><p>This reality shows us that technology, like the Tree of Knowledge, can be both blessing and curse depending on how it is used. For Christians, the key question is not whether we can use AI, but how we use it. Discernment is critical. Christians must ask themselves before engaging with AI: Does this glorify God? Does this deepen my walk with Christ? Does this help me love my neighbor? Setting these boundaries ensures that technology remains a tool that points us back to Christ rather than a distraction that pulls us away from Him. In his honor, I created the <a data-mce-href="https://surrealfaith.com/kings-light-foundation" href="https://surrealfaith.com/kings-light-foundation">King’s Light Foundation</a>, an initiative through Surreal Faith Ministries dedicated to carrying forward his legacy by offering resources of hope and resilience to those who mourn.¹</p><p>In the wake of this loss, one verse has become especially meaningful: “Jesus wept” (John 11:35). He paused, stood with Mary and Martha in their grief, and allowed Himself to feel their sorrow. His weeping affirms that grief is not weakness or faithlessness; it is love expressed through tears.</p><p>This moment also reveals the paradox of Christ’s nature: He is both fully God and fully man.³ As God incarnate, He knew Lazarus would live again, yet as a man, He entered the raw pain of human loss. It reminds us that grief is not a sign of weakness or lack of faith but rather a part of the shared human condition.</p><p>Jesus' tears also signify His deep love and connection to humanity. It shows that He is not detached from our struggles but is intimately aware and compassionate toward our pain. This understanding can offer comfort to those who feel isolated in their grief, reassuring them that they are not alone.</p><h2>Empathy as a Pathway to Healing</h2><p>In moments of grief, empathy can be a powerful tool for healing. When we see Jesus weeping alongside those who mourned Lazarus, it demonstrates the importance of being present with others in their sorrow. I must acknowledge Naseem’s absence and the deep void it leaves. I must wait and work through, grief cannot be rushed or ignored. I must adjust to a family dynamic forever altered. And, with God’s strength, I must reinvest my emotions by honoring Naseem’s life through ministry and carrying his light forward.</p><p>Jesus’ tears also demonstrate the power of empathy. When He stood outside Lazarus’s tomb, He did not lecture or minimize grief; He joined in it. This teaches us that one of the greatest gifts we can offer others is presence. Listening without judgment, sitting in silence, or simply weeping together can be transformative. As Richard Dayringer reminds us, pastoral care is not about providing quick answers but about “walking with people in the valley of the shadow of death.”⁵</p><p>By embracing this model of empathy, we learn to support one another through shared experiences. Listening without judgment, offering a shoulder to cry on, or simply being there can provide immense relief to those who are grieving. Death is not merely “sleep.” It is real, and it wounds deeply. Yet in Christ, death is not the final word.</p><p>This dual reality shapes the Christian response to grief: we mourn authentically, but we do not mourn without hope (1 Thess. 4:13).
